Review of Terms of Endearment (1983) by Robert B — 08 Jan 2010
If you have never seen this movie, you have at least heard the theme song at some point. I am just now getting around to seeing this movie, and I am glad I did. This movie is regarded as a template for a dramatic tear-jerker about people relating to each other.
By today's standards, it seems a little dated, but it is hard to deny the great casting seen here. Each actor fits well into their roles and they all do a great job. Stand outs are Shirley McLain and Jack Nicolson.
In fact, Jack played the only character that I liked from start to finish. The rest of the characters all seem to have moments that made me not like them. That seemed to be the point though, as we watched everyone go through changes.
They grew, they made mistakes, much like we all do. The only thing that truly bugged me was the shitty behavior of TImmy, one of the sons of the main character. Any normal parent would have scolded the child, but his mom just tolerated it.
I know they were going through rough circumstances, but that does give the kid any right to mouth off. That small complaint aside, this is a great movie, and it is well regarded in the movie community.
You should watch this movie.
