Review of Terms of Endearment (1983) by Danni G — 15 Nov 2015
A movie that is equal parts funny and sentimental. The performances and the script are by far what really stand out with this movie. Shirley Maclaine and Debra Winger both gave their characters so much life you felt as if you could reach out and touch them.
However, I am not sure that it deserved to win Best Picture that year, compared to other greats such as The Outsiders and Scarface that were not even nominated. The cinematography, sound mixing, and soundtrack are by far its greatest weaknesses, and at times are very distracting.
The film is saved by the fact that it has an amazing script and actresses that dedicated themselves to it, I'm just not sure it deserves the many award it got.
