âTerms of Endearmentâ? beats down its own melodrama and sentimentality and manages to affect the viewer merely through its emotional sincerity: It cares about its characters and the issues that they face â" which encompass adultery, death, social roles, parent-child relationships, to name a few â" and thatâ(TM)s why despite fitting 40 years into 2 hours, we come to care too.
