Review of Terms of Endearment (1983) by Alec B — 14 Dec 2013
If you can look past the awful score and the deliberately weepy melodrama its full of finely tuned observations about human nature. I disliked the film for years, probably because I didn't get that most of the characters are supposed to be unlikable.
James L. Brooks tends to make films that are very good, but he often compromises the strong character development and plot with endings that are more palatable to audiences . . . I don't think that's true here, if anything its a deceptively bleak ending.
