Review of Terminator Salvation (2009) by Nick B — 10 May 2014
This is the Terminator story I always wanted to see. The tale of what happened during the machines takeover of our world. It had the potential to be something really amazing. I think it was great to see a Terminator movie without the time travelling assassination story.
Unfortunately it failed to hit the mark in many ways. The picture Kyle Reese paints in the first picture is nothing like the one in Salvation. Kyle says the humans were hoarded into work camps close to extinction. Then John Conner lead them to freedom and later war with the machines. I'm the flashback scenes you see a very dark desolate place with humans hiding in strongholds that would have been old warehouses ect. In Salvation you see the humans are using submarine and fighter jets to fight the machines. There is a strong presence of a U.S military regime in the picture, which is not what the first picture would have you believe.
Christian Bale plays John Connor well but he doesn't add anything to the character like he did with Batman. I like the CGI appearance if Arnold's Terminator in the form of the Terminator from the first film.
Overall it's an easily forgettable picture that isn't something I'd re watch again and again.
