Review of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) by Luke N — 30 Aug 2013

Every time I re-watch this movie, I find that I've forgotten just how awesome it really is. Generally, I'm not a fan of straight-out actions films - least of all, those that contain Arnold Schwarzenegger.

But 'Terminator 2' has always been cherished by a larger audience because, owing to several crucial reasons, it reaches higher than that of any other throwaway action flick. Coming in three years before 'Jurassic Park', the effects in this movie were also amazing for their time, and with the decision of making Arnie a good guy, the Austrian-born actor was established as an A-listing action hero.

Equally marvellous is Robert Patrick as the evil terminator, and while teenage John Connor is a little shit, the friendship between him, his mother, and his leathered-jacketed guardian, lends this film a great depth of human character which was virtually non-existent in the first film.

Although still shockingly violent at times, the film carries a certain sense of morality - amazingly, Arnie doesn't kill one person in this film - and in my opinion, this makes T2 all the more enjoyable.

A more than commendable landmark in James Cameron's arguably uneven career.
