Review of Tenet (2020) by Kirkender — 16 Dec 2020
Tenet is real bad. It is actually a very straightforward James Bond style action movie, but instead of one-liners and sex scenes we have a half-boiled attempt to explain entropy and time-inversion. John David Washington is wonderful, even though his character is a blank slate.
Robert Pattinson is great, even though he's mostly just a plot device. Kenneth Branagh chews the scenery as usual, and his 'russian' accent is inconsistent and silly. Elizabeth Debicki is great, it's too bad she was written as an empty shell who only speaks in relation to her husband and son.
The music is well done, if a little heavy handed especially when attempting to build tension. Tenet is 2 1/2 hours long and is crazy boring, the actual time bending fun happens at 1 1/2 hours and by that point I was so stir crazy it was underwhelming.
The gimmick of it being mirrored is a fun idea that's been done better in literature and other actual sci-fi. It's all a big waste of time and is a dumb movie that poses as being smart.
