Review of Tender Mercies (1983) by John W — 03 Feb 2008
This movie spectacularly demonstrates that, when it comes to great films, smaller is usually better. It's a simple story, simply told-about a country singer who hits rock-bottom and slowly puts his life back together-but it hits all the right notes and takes full advantage of its Oscar-winning screenplay.
Best of all, it shows what God can do to work in all things for the good, even if at the time it seems that He is absent or cruel. A real cinematic treasure.
