Review of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006) by Chris H — 16 Jul 2011
I feel like I'm in elementary school again. I cant believe I caught myself laughing at the unbelievably crude and low-brow jokes. Remember when everyone thought that the word "poop" was comedy gold?
The thing that makes this movie as good as it is (and for the record, I AM a Tenacious D fan)is Jack Black and Kyle Gass. The duo are so unbelievably silly and for lack of a better word, insane; you can't help but to love them. They make jokes that look like they were written by a sixth grader hilarious!
Sure, there is a lot of hit-and-miss here; but Tenacious D makes up for the "misses" with an awesome soundtrack. The rock duo and supposed "best band in the world" play some catchy hard rock that is almost as silly as the movie's plot. Some of my personal favorites are Kickapoo and Master Exploder.
You also have to love the rock references here, especially the Ronnie James Dio tributes (RIP Dio).
This would be a hard movie to recommend to anyone...I would say if you are a Tenacious D fan, go for it (but if you are a Tenacious D fan you probably already did).
