The Tenacious D movie is just as fantastic as I could have hoped. After the film's underwhelming reaction in the United States and the uninspiring trailer, I was already bracing myself for a lacklustre comedy experience.
This film was not subpar. A fanboy's fantasy has come true. And perhaps exactly that is what contributed to its commercial downfall. The Tenacious world is well known to fans of this film. It's likely that a casual viewer won't understand the inside joke.
