Ten Inch Hero is a low budget independent film following the lives of a group of friend who work together in a sandwich shop. Piper is searching for the Daughter she gave up for adoption eight years ago. Jen is hoping her online romance can survive the test of appearances. Tish uses sex as a weapon, and never seems to find love. Priestly is desperate for someone to see beyond his tattooed and pierced exterior and take advantage of the person inside. Trucker owns the sandwich store, and is wizened by sea and surf, yet he still relies on his staff to find the love of his life.

With a relatively well known cast - Clea DuVall (Girl, Interrupted), Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints) - Ten Inch Hero is a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Fears, lies, love and friendships intertwine, making it an emotional journey for all involved. At points the acting does seem a little forced, but the bonds between the cast shine through as a saving grace.

With so many different character story lines to conclude in the final scenes, the tying up of all the lose ends does seem a little pressured. But clichés are not always negative. This is a feel-good film about friendship and love, and by the time the credits roll, you do feel good. An imperfect portrayal of life in Santa Cruz, Ten Inch Hero is one of my favourite romantic comedies, perhaps even more so because of its flaws.
