Review of Temple Grandin (2010) by Rachel G — 15 Apr 2011
A quirky and fascinating movie. I personally work with children and young people with Autism so often find movies such as this stereotypical and very stylized, Temple Gradin on the other hand I found to be engaging, true and heart breakingly beautiful throughout, the main plot interesting in itself, but the subtext of Temples relationship with her mother and the old fashioned attitudes towards disabilities such as Autism are as true to life now as they were in the 1950's. Parents blaming themselves for their childs disabilities. The slight hug Temple gives her Mum towards the end of the movie pulling at the strings of the stoniest of hearts.
Clare Danes portrail of Temple is exemplary and as real as an actor could get. The best I have seen since Leonardo's portrail in What eating Gilbert Grape...... A million miles from the sycophantic portrail of Rainman.. One not to be missed.
