Review of Temple Grandin (2010) by Dustin G — 31 Dec 2010
Pretty affecting little biopic about a woman who overcomes autism and uses it to her benefit by becoming one of the most important people in the cattle industry.
It's a shame made to TV movies aren't eligible for Oscars because Claire Danes would win hands down, she gives an amazing, completely naturalistic, perfect performance as the Temple. She undergoes one of those complete transformation things that renders Danes as we know her almost unrecognizable.
Mick Jackson, whoever that is, directs the movie with the intention of visualizing Grandin's autism and does a really good job of it. Without having autism myself, or knowing much about it, it seems accurate given what we know of Grandin through the movie.
The writings good as well, very up front and matter of fact about Temple's autism, but always presenting it with great warmth and adoration.
As with their series, HBO is committed to making their made for TV movies with the same level of skill and excellence as anything you'd see playing at your local multiplex any given day of the week and Temple Grandin is no exception.
