Review of Teeth (2000) by Chris K — 04 Dec 2010
I don't mean to be a prude by implying that there are certain topics that should never be tackled in movies, but the ones in this movie are basically impossible to tackle in a mature way that isn't exploitative or scandalizing, and this movie doesn't even try.
It even takes several steps in the opposite direction by ridiculing the pursuit of chastity. I have heard people express interest in this movie as a female-empowerment piece, but I really find it hard to see what's empowering about a girl who gets raped every time she turns around.
So the whole content of the movie is pretty much despicable no matter what, but I'm still sort of left wondering what genre this is supposed to fit into, exactly-- horror, comedy, or just outright evil? I guess it doesn't really matter though.
