Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) by Ian G — 11 Sep 2016
Surprisingly an upgrade over the original reboot film from 2014, following up with the turtles as they pursue Shredder after his jailbreak, and his new partner in crime Krang from Dimention X and his new mutated henchmen Beebop and Rocksteady.
Plays more as a live action cartoon as opposed to the attempted gritty take that Michael Bay started in 2014, and also had fairly loyal interpretations of all the loved characters from the four brothers and giving a tip of the hat to its history introducing Baxter Stockman, the Vanilla Ice shout out during a Casey Jones early scene and even bringing in the original 80's cartoon theme song for the title card sequence at the end film.
A lot better than it should have been and appreciated as such. And Stephen Amell surprisingly makes a great addition to the cast as Casey Jones in what I think is his big screen debut in a prominent role anyways outside of his recurring series on the Arrow.
Not bad after a summer of surprising duds.
