Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) by Jeremy B — 23 Jul 2018
It feels like this film doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Does it want to be a generic Michael Bay action flick? Does it want to be a Transformers ripoff? Or does it want to pay homage to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Amazingly, whatever the case may have been, the film falls short of any mark that it could possibly conceive. Sure, it's a relatively fun time if this is your first time experiencing the turtles and you are under 10 years old, but if you have half of a brain and have seen numerous incarnations of the turtles (many of them much better than this one) I wouldn't bother with this film. It adds nothing and brings nothing to the table for fans of the series.
Not only that, but the film in itself contradicts itself way too much in tone, theme, motif, and plot to even be an enjoyable film to watch in its own right.
