Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Joe I — 26 Apr 2015
As a fan of the Ninja Turtles as I remember them, I am biased like so many. Even pass the bias, I still find this a bad movie. Since first seeing the look, I am not a fan of the look of the new turtles as well as the look of Shredder and Splinter.
A few of the voices as well didn't sit with me. For me, the biggest sin may have been making the Shredder more of a muscle man even though they claim he had a bigger role in the plot. The thing though that accelerates this to a higher score is the personality of the turtles themselves.
The filmmakers kept true to keeping each turtle distinct. The short run time of the movie hurts any growth for characters both human and cgi. There are moments that can be both a throwback to the older films as well as showing a faithfulness to the source.
All in all, if you consider yourself a fan, watch it and make your own opinion.
