Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Chris O — 16 Nov 2015
A movie about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was never going to win an Oscar or anything, so take it for what it is. It's a fun movie that stars 4 likable characters with some cool action sequences.
I think one of the problems here is the fact that they focus on the human characters too much. It seems like Hollywood these days assume that we can't relate to any characters in a movie unless they are human. It's not true at all, and Megan Fox's character (along with Will Arnett) just feel useless. If anything, Megan Fox is there just because "she is nice to look at". Her acting is alright, but there really isn't any reason why they should be there. They'd make for alright side characters, but they did not hold up as the main characters.
On the bright side, the four turtles are the best thing about this movie. I love all their personalities and every time I laughed, it was because of them. They may just be huge, CGI globs, but they made the movie for me. The visuals overall look great and it definitely shows that technology has come a long way today. The turtles look amazing and most other things do too.
The script in this movie isn't great or anything, but is fine for the most part. The plot overall is actually pretty boring and it seems like the movie was rushed through a bit. However, whenever the action was happening or we were following the 4 turtles, I was just smiling and having a good time. Isn't that the purpose of movies anyways, to have a good time? People are much too harsh on this movie. Is it great? Nope. Is it bad? No. Just take the movie for what it is and you'll probably have a fun time. This movie is cheesy and like one big cartoon, but it's probably something I could watch as my guilty pleasure film.
