Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Brendan N — 25 Mar 2018
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is proving a tough shell to crack, pun very much intended. The original film at least had the good intentions of being a guilty pleasure, but this reboot is exactly why Transformers is not the best example to copy.
Michael Bay is a gifted director, but he cannot direct actors or generate a coherent storyline. The biggest issue is the storyline, it was not worth the over extended delay and reboot. Michael Bay's influence can be felt all over this and this is why the film fails at the basic character creation stage.
Megan Fox was an uninspired choice for April and having a poorly developed side kick Will Arnett was further evidence that the filmmakers knew nothing about what makes these characters great. The action is the only redeeming aspect of the film, but that is by the set piece Hollywood standard though.
