Review of Ted (2012) by Stefan N — 12 Dec 2013
The likability of "Ted" depends on whether or not you appreciate Seth McFarlane's humor. I usually enjoy watching "Family Guy," but here the humor is too revolting and offensive for me to actually like- it is in no way satirical.
I chuckled a few times and I'm being generous. The characters are not as fleshed out nor is the story anything besides pure formula. The chemistry between the teddy bear and Mark Wahlberg is interestingly strong, but it's few enjoyable things about the film.
Seth McFarlane directs well and writes poorly. The pop-culture reference jokes made no sense to me since I did not understand half of the references (I usually do in "Family Guy" with the little clips between the story).
"Ted" is too uncomfortable to be funny, to formulaic to be fresh, and a disappointment from McFarlane.
