Review of Tears of the Black Tiger (2000) by Jacob T — 08 Oct 2009
The pastel colors, while exhilarating and beautiful at times, pretty much made me feel like someone had hand-tinted each frame with their own vomit after eating a birthday cake. And shy of the remarkably rich color palette or the occasionally hilarious hyperbolic nudge to the Western lore of the 50's (there's so many that eventually it just becomes casual), there's not much else it can stand on and ultimately it just feels like a tired Saturday morning cartoon drug out to a bloody, melodramatic-till-it-hurts 110 minutes.
If you feel up for something that has Tarantino-like style with none of the heart, then you might want to check it out. Otherwise maybe not.
