Review of Tears of the Black Tiger (2000) by Mark L — 03 Dec 2007
A THAI western!??? this is what it was described as and what first piqued my interest. I discovered it wasn't so much as the spaghetti western some compared it to [but it is a pad thai western, har har].
at first I wasn't sure whether to laugh at the almost comical over the top acting and overuse of close up shots but I quickly got over it and fell into it like I was watching casablanca or gone with the wind.
I think the intent was to make it so cheesy, you can't help but love it. and after the second view, i'm sold. right away, most notable thing: its color palette--saturated yet soft at the same time, almost dreamlike.
very awesome.
