Review of Team America: World Police (2004) by David L — 24 Oct 2015
I don't think I've ever seen a film like this before, and the chances are that you won't see one like it again - without it being banned that is. Thunderbirds goes hardcore in this very comical puppet show.
It certainly won't be to everyones taste as some of the jokes are very borderline and politically incorrect, but I couldn't help but laugh at the stupidity of the soundtrack and the crudeness of the dialogue! It even throws in a puppet sex scene for the viewers pleasure, although I hasten to add that this is my 2nd time witnessing such a bizarre feat, following 'the bride of chucky'! You'll either get this or you won't, and it all centres around your level of maturity! The big kids amongst us will love it, but others will simply be appalled.
It takes the very real threat of terrorism in today's society and ridicules it using badly controlled spoof puppets and Americanisms that openly mock some of histories most notorious leaders. Not only that, but it has a clear vendetta against particular actors of this world too.
The key is to not take it literally. With so much going on in today's society, I personally see this as some light relief and a chance to not take life too seriously. There's no sitting on the fence with this one, you either love it or hate it, but I'm very much the former given its a welcome breath of fresh air amongst today's filming industry.
