Review of Teacher's Pet (2004) by Sharon E — 13 Dec 2010
I remember as a kid liking this cartoon. I thought it was a good balance of completely silly and clever humor. And the complicated relationship between Leonard and his dog allowed for great humor but was ultimately the best friendship and loyalty between and boy and his dog, who can talk, and is smarter than him.
The voice actor for leonard really is good. But at the same time I never felt much for the animation style and didn't think it was good enough for a full length feature. But after hearing other people praise it I looked at it, and it frankly kinda creeped me out.
First of all the songs are pretty much all bad, then the story is... awkward. Not necessarily bad aside from reaching for more than a couple cliches, its just... kinda weird. I supposed when you hear its a story about Scott/Spot wanting to be a real boy, you can guess where the story is going.
It's sometimes funny but only sometimes. On the other hand I think kids will really like it, and its one of the those movies where I can forgive kids who like it, not like movies that are complete crap and you're ashamed that your kids like it.
So I won't watch it again, but I'd show it to my kids.
