Review of Taxi Driver (1976) by Maria D — 09 Oct 2012
A fascinating and truly brilliant masterpiece by Scorsese.
Robert Dinero plays Travis Bickle a lonely Vietnam veteran who sees the squalor and violent world around him for what it really is.
Suffering from insomnia he takes a job as a New York taxi driver. Through the eyes of Travis we see what he sees, crime, corruption and the seedy, sordid reality of life on the streets.
In Travis's misguided way he attempts to cleanse and destroy part of his hell.
A movie which has profound significance for some and has cult classic status, the sound effects and music perfectly coincide with the visual images on screen.
