DeNiro gives a performance that actors still envy and Jodie Foster gives what is still, over 35 years later, her best performance. I saw it at the AFI when Martin was taking it around to get the opinions of film students before it opened.

Then when it did open I saw it at least once a week for the next few months. By the way Scorsese did take those opinions to heart because I saw a few very minor changes between that showing and the opening day print.
