Review of Taxi Driver (1976) by Sebastian O — 22 Jan 2014
This is a good film. A fantastic film, at that. However, let me start with some disappointments. Firstly, not a fan of the editing; I thought the same tune was overplayed and the audio and dialogue in the climax were kind of off-putting, as it didn't match the characters' movements. And while the first and last 30 minutes were entertaining, there was a big schlop in the middle of the film that was - to some extent - boring.
Now the positives, that do outweigh the negatives. DeNiro was never as appealing as an actor as he was in Taxi Driver. Scorsese's style and artistic choices were very unique and inspiring. Great cinematography, and while the climax was not as suspenseful as I would've liked, how the tension builds throughout the film is really amazing. Great supporting performances as well, specifically Shepherd and Foster (though DeNiro steals the show).
