Review of Taxi Driver (1954) by Shahriar S — 19 Sep 2012
"in every block of every street there is a nobody who wishes he was a somebody". the original movie anti-hero was created in this movie and man does Robert De Niro deliver this character so masterfully.
this movie takes you on a journey through a taxi drivers life and his hatred for the people of his city due to their inhumane manners and disrespectful ways. travis is such a complex character as the evil that consumed the people around him along his frustration from the army, transports him to a really dark and sinister world.
"you talking to me?" this alone defines the movie, as it is one of the greatest quotes in movie history as it shows a nobody trying to impose power and act though while looking at his own reflection.
poverty is a horrible thing and martin scorses portrays it so well and the agitation that arises from it. absolutely brilliant story one of the best of all time as travis's quest to find a purpose and find a spotlight for himself takes him to another world.
