Review of Targets (1968) by Anthony V — 09 Jun 2008
I just saw this on TCM. Yes, it creeps slowly along desperately to fill its required 180 minutes, but the last 30 minutes is worth it. It stars Boris Karloff as an aging horror movie icon promoting his last picture.
Meanwhile, a sociopathic war vet cooly kills his family and and takes to sniping strangers from high places. Hard to believe this is a freakin' Roger Corman movie!! Think of the environment when this movie was conceived and filmed: Oswald ('63), Charles Whitman ('66), and Ray ('67).
And shortly before this film was released in 08/1968, Sirhan. The climax is a drive-in where the sniper shoots people from behind the movie screen. The theme: "True horror is the modern world".
