Review of Tape (2001) by Shala T — 05 Jun 2007
It has the look of an indie film but not all the great aspects that go along with it. Yes, it has an interesting setting - it all takes place in a room of a sleazy motel. Yes, the storyline was very interesting - Vince, the drug dealer and resident asshole (Hawke), Jon, the documentary filmmaker (Leonard), and Amy, Vince's ex and Jon's one-night hook-up (Thurman) - high school friends who spend some time getting reacquinted and talking about this one privotal event from their past.
. However, I don't think this movie completely worked. It was too disjointed at times most likely due to the fact that alot of the dialogue was improvised. Ethan Hawke (one of my favorite actors) was great in though and I think his performance shone through and like some other people said, it's unlike other things he has done.
