A low-key, one-location, breezy little three-man one-act feature film, Tape is, superficially, significant because of its early pioneering of the digital video medium (grainy in comparison to Red camera accomplishments like Zodiac or Benjamin Button) and its reunification of Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard (the two guys from Dead Poets Society), along with Hawke's then-wife Uma Thurman.

The plot, based on a play, is alternately slight and involving, funny and riveting, chatty and uncomfortable. The performances make the stay worth it, but Tape should be reserved exclusively for relaxed evenings when you're longing for a little intrigue.
