Review of Tammy (2014) by Connor D — 01 Apr 2015
"Tammy" stars Melissa McCarthy and is directed by her own husband. The story is about a woman who is having a truly awful day, so she naturally wants to go on a joy ride. But it comes with a price when she finds the only way she can take her grandmother's car is if she comes along. They then start a traveling adventure and start to get in all kinds of trouble.
Seeing my grade it is obvious that I didn't enjoy this movie. I'm not going to start explaining all the things that I didn't enjoy, but all I'll say is that I didn't laugh, chuckle, or even giggle ONCE in this COMEDY. The only goal of a comedy is to be FUNNY, and, unfortunately, "Tammy" is not funny in the slightest, no matter how hard McCarthy tried. The only reason this film isn't the lowest grade to give is because of McCarthy's effort and the chemistry that seemed so easy to achieve between McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, and Kathy Bates. I thought all three of the actresses had amazing chemistry between each other and they all seemed to put in some effort for this overall pathetic comedy.
In the end, "Tammy" falls way short of what is the only requirement of a Comedy film, and that is to make the audience laugh, which I didn't. Not even once. 1.5/10.
