Review of Talk to Me (2007) by Cade L — 05 Feb 2009
I was really impressed with this movie even if it did straddle cliche a little bit here and there. Don Cheadle tears up--no surprise there. The biggest surprise is the superb performance from Chiwetel Ejiofor.
It's really saying something when you can hold your own in a scene with Don Cheadle and occasionally out-act him too. All of the characters were well written and the film is well staged. Unfortunately, it's a bio-pic, so the story's conclusion is tied down by the real events of Petey Greene's life; leading to a so-so ending.
This film also features the most moving depiction of the aftermath of Dr King's assassination. I feel like I have been given a truthful glimpse of what it must have felt like for those following the civil rights movement.
Good movie.
