Review of Talk to Me (2007) by Matthew L — 27 Jul 2010
After a slightly wobbly start where the film starts off firmly in dramedy territory before becoming an excellent drama. Cheadle turns in one of his best performances to date as DJ "Petey" Greene the 'voice of D.
C.' radio who went from being a prison DJ to a 'legitimate' DJ literally over night by sheer bravado and force of personality. Superbly offsetting Cheadles performance is the ever reliable Ejiofor who gives a restrained performance as Dewey Hughes who sees in Greene something that no one else does.
The film takes in a number of events, Greene as the prototype 'shock jock', the civil rights movement and the death of Martin Luther King Jr. A powerful film that draws an emotional response from the viewer and I can't recommend it highly enough.
