Review of Talk to Her (2002) by Dfw F — 23 Dec 2009
I had not seen many almovodar movies and have been trying to catch up and watch some of them. I like this film. Very Beautiful and kind of Spooky!! This is an unusual film and unusual for Almodovar in that the emphasis is not on the females and the film is not a sex comedy!~!.
It is one of his more "conventional" type films but still has a Weird ART FILM type plot and I like it. WOW. The film is really about dark obsessions. I agree with Lisa S film critic "Like everything else in this superb work of art, ''Shrinking Lover'' is exquisitely Almodóvarian.
It's funny, tender, a little shocking, and it pays homage to what we know about movies: that they can move us beyond words." Highly recommended 5 stars 2nd review feb 09 wow great movie! Every time I see this movie it chokes me up.
It's hard to admit being a 50 year old male and getting emotional about a movie like this. This movie superficially seems a simple story but it is not. The obsessions in this movie become normal to us as we view the movie.
Dario Grandinetti in another great role. Camara is really great also. In a way Camara is really the star of the movie. So odd to see two males starring in an Almovdar movie!! ( much less one straight male and one gay male who become friends and bond deeply) I have never seen or dreamed of a romantic fantasy like this movie!!! Some of the freshest filming making I have seen in 20 years Mike La Salle of SF Gate paper really sums it up: "This is Almodovar's stab at serious drama, and the result is bizarre and affecting but also unsettling in ways that the filmmaker may not have intended.
" Really Almovdar's most mature work and certainly a masterpiece! HIGHEST RATING FIVE STARS.
