Review of Taking Woodstock (2009) by Ceph J — 20 Dec 2009
This is an excellent companion if you've seen the 1969 documentary "Woodstock." Ang Lee directs in a style "by the numbers" but the movie is insufficient, if you're not familiar with the original.
Basically, the movie is a background to the real event as it follows the locals at the NY area and focuses on a Jewish family. The crowd scenes are real so make you feel that you are transported there and the cinematography is superb.
Demetri Martin is the main character but he's so laid-back that you hardly care about his "coming of age." Imelda Staunton is more interesting as his mother but the role is a stereotype.
