Review of Taking Lives (2004) by Ady H — 13 Aug 2008
An incredibly suspenseful film starring the ever-wonderful Jolie as FBI profiled Illeana Scott, and Ethan Hawke and Kiefer Sutherland as suspects in a serial killer case. The film takes many twists and turns and throws in a fair few red herrings to keep the viewer guessing from start to finish.
Sometimes a little unclear as to the killer's motivation, but as one finds out later, perhaps this is justified. Altogether an enjoyable film with a surprise ending. Sadly, it's only really good for one viewing, as once the real killer is known, the twists and herrings are lost.
Not many appearances from Sutherland make it feel more like a bit part for him, and I would have liked to see him more. His character did feel like a decoy throughout his unfortunately short scenes. Still, a good movie and one to watch with a friend.
