Review of Taking Lives (2004) by Kevin R — 02 Apr 2015
You ever been fishing? The bait always dies.
A man travels across the Northern America and Canada taking on different identities to execute victims. His crime spree has spanned over 20 years. A gruesome murder in Canada leads to an FBI profiler helping the local detectives. Can the locals work well with the US agent to catch their man?
"You can't touch the body.".
"I'll touch anything I want.".
DJ Caruso, director of Disturbia, Eagle Eye, Two for the Money, I Am Number 4, Tin Man, Standing Up, and the upcoming GI Joe 3, delivers Taking Lives. The storyline for this picture was fairly straightforward and the twists were predictable. The acting was solid despite the flimsy plot and the cast includes Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke, Kiefer Sutherland, Gena Rowlands, Paul Dano, and Olivier Martinez.
"You and I are about the same height.".
I came across this film on Netflix and decided to give it a shot. I thought it would be a thriller like Murder by Numbers or Se7en. It was a step down from those movies. The acting and execution was fine but the plot was too predictable and vanilla. Overall, this is okay but I wouldn't go too out of my way to see it.
"Fuck people. Fuck their rules.".
Grade: C+.
