Review of Taken (2008) by Eero V — 18 May 2013
"Taken" is a movie not meant to be taken seriously. If a film has dialogue like "If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you" and "I push one button and 38 agents are here before you have time to scratch your worthless balls", you know it's not.
This is brainless action at its best, with a boring and awfully familiar story but with a true badass hero and wonderfully entertaining action. The running time is also fully correct, 90 minutes is a perfect length for an action film.
Liam Neeson is a laudably good toughie in his role, but I still hope he doesn't get stuck only with action films. If you watch this film with a censorious eye, you'll probably detest it. But if you just dump your brains somewhere else for 90 minutes, you'll have an undeniably fun experience.
