Review of Taken (2004) by Ronald N — 08 Feb 2013
"Taken" success thanks to Liam Neeson's compelling leading act, even he overshadows the rest, being the only spotlight of all the cast; with a sharp and smart direction of Piere Morel, and the fast-pacing script that is functional at best.
Even the story had an uneven but effective mix of a James Bond flick (with less elegance and no gadgets), Daddy Dangerous and Traffic (but there change the drugs for sex traffic), which in some way become unique with the high-octane action scenes that doesn't take very many detours into dad-daughter love and soul-searching melancholy between Neeson, Janssen and Grace.
"Taken" is a contemporary thriller that had the enough thrills and surprises that the movie will be a success, even is not more smart than undeniably fun compared other action-thriller movies.
