Review of Take the Money and Run (1969) by Sam T — 27 Jun 2007
I found the film to be dated, which is an atypical conclusion for a Woody Allen film. The bulk of the jokes play to slapstick and the result is juvenile humor. I had a hard time keeping attentive to the one-trick pony series of mishaps that in the end didn't matter.
This film, though, allows me to truly appreciate Allen's later films because it illustrates his growth from a college misfit to a full fledged auteur. Worth a look if you enjoy Mel Brooks and Monty Python style comedies (though I feel you'll have more success with Blazing Saddles or Holy Grail).
