Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Brandon F — 03 Jun 2012
The moment after watching this, I was not quite sure how to feel. On the one hand, this is a beautiful movie about love, and standing by those we care about. It was moving, captivating, and incredibly well acted most notably by Michael Shannon as the lead.
Depending on how one interprets the end though, it could either nullify all of the film's important themes that preceded it, or it could work as a metaphor to reaffirm the importance of standing together through the worst that is yet to come.
After a few moments passed, I chose the latter. After all, film is not quarantined within the limits of reality. Nor does everything in film have to be linked to some defined reality within the film. The truth of a film is its emotional impact and the points we take away.
