Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Pedro A — 15 Jun 2012
There's also a nature disaster movement or an altogether Harmageddon-in-any-form movement. This is however not about that. It's about Curtis breaking down from the good life, which he obviously doesn't think he deserves. There's a punishment coming. Inside him.
So he has these hallucinations and bad dreams, mostly about storms. You think of Polanski's "Repulsion". This is not that frightening, but more believable.
Michael Shannon is great, but even greater is Jessica Chastain as his wife Samantha, trying to cope with her man's insanity. In the shelter scene, the solution comes. She and their daughter must follow Curtis, out of the good life. They survive, but to what?
