Review of Take Shelter (2011) by Choc S — 15 Aug 2012
This kind of nuanced film making is rarely seen today --effective. A psychological thriller slash domestic drama about a man haunted by dreams of an impending apocalyptic storm, and his ensuing obsession to build a storm shelter at the cost of his family and friends.
Curtis Lafroche, played perfectly by Michael Shannon, is either a prophet or a madman. He is afraid that his dreams may come true, but the flip side is even more dreadful-- what if he is losing his mind? The story is more intense each minute, a slow burn of unsettling anxiety as we question ourselves whether his dreams, or Curtis himself, is the danger to his family.
