Review of Take Shelter (2011) by James M — 12 Mar 2015
Take Shelter is more eerie and prophetic than it is dramatic and could easily be described as a mix between Field Of Dreams & Donnie Darko, or even a modernisation of the Noah's Ark biblical tale.
Michael Shannon plays the lead character, a husband & father who could or could not be suffering from a mental illness, and after a string of apocalyptic visions decides to build a storm shelter outside his house.
At nearly 2 hours, the film, for the most part is a whole lotta nothing except a brilliant central performance from Shannon and an incredibly gripping final third.
