Review of Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War (2004) by Brian D — 11 Aug 2007
As you can guess from the title this is a foreign film; Korean acutal. Set during the Korean War the story follows two brothers who are forced to join the Sourth Korean army. The older brother swears to protect the younger one no matter the cost and much of the movie his the effect of this vow and how the war changes them both. Now the movie is very well done. The fight scenes are as good as any American war film and they do a good job at paying attention to history. One great thing about this film is that here really is no good guys and there are no punches pulled when it comes to dealing with the South's own actions during the war. The movie also paid attention at how common soldiers thought about the war. They also used mostly extras instead of making a huge computer army. Ending is well done and very emotional; I was tearing up there a bit. Some problems with the film are the planes are clearly fake and some of the scenes are a bit unbelievable or seem out of place. But these are small issues for this well done war flick.
Best Scene: The death scene. If you've got to go that's how to do it.
Best Line: "For the record that was your worst prediction ever.".
Rating: See it.
