Review of Tabloid (2011) by Joey F — 28 Jun 2011
Like the tabloids, titillates but does not satisfy. Ultimately, the problem with the film is Joyce Mckinney, who contrary to Errol Morris's statement that he really captured the true Joyce by his famed interviewing technique, did not reveal anything other than her rehearsed fairy tale version of the events of 1977.
Like the dog she cloned, she continues to clone that story. The complete lack of any introspection or insight after all these years comes across by the end of the film as a grating one dimensional presentation by a bad actress.
When Joyce says, talking about others, that when you tell a lie often enough you believe it, the audience, at least part of them, laugh, because they get the irony. Too bad Joyce doesn't-and I'm not sure Errol Morris gets it either.
