Review of T2 Trainspotting (2017) by Richard S — 23 Dec 2018
Trainspotting captured a time and a place perfectly and I was drawn to the sequel for nostalgic reasons, not because I expected it to be good because lets face it, whenever anyone tries to make a sequel to an iconic film, it usually falls flat.
However, I thought this was more than a worthy sequel to the original. This story joins the characters from the original some 20 years later, some still in the same place, others trying to move on with their lives but all of them still very much damaged individuals.
The role that stood out for me was Robert Carlyle's return as the psychotic Begbie, a man completely consumed by hatred and vegeneance that he doesn't see opportunities for redemption staring him in the face.
I thought all central players were spot on and it ended with a nice tribute to the original, having come full circle for one character in particular. Worth seeing if you enjoyed the original.
