Fucking fantastic movie that I get more out of with each viewing. Yes you will have to be awake and ask yourself questions. You may have to do research and watch it again. I had to look up 'synecdoche'. It helped.
I could see being upset about this movie if Michael Bay directed it. If I was expecting to see latest brainless cgi clusterfuck and instead got this film that tasked me to think, I would be here writing how pretentious it is and how stupid it made me feel. But it is written AND directed by Charlie Kaufman. Why are you walking into a Charlie Kaufman movie and not expecting to go "The fuck?" while simultaneously crying at the end?
There's a reason why every actor would suck Kaufman's balls to have a mere cameo in one of his movies. It's because they are regarded as actual art in an industry that is stuck catering to lazy audiences. The majority of today's movie goers are so shell shocked by Transformers or Fast and the Furious that when they encounter real art they shake their heads and fart.
Everyone who hated Synecdoche please go watch Idiocracy. Because this is you.
