Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by George W — 16 Jan 2010
Charlie kaufman is a pretty philosophical writer. his themes often explore time, identity and subjectivity. this is a 2 hour movie dealing with these themes. and honestly I wasn't liking it most of the way through - slow pacing and just too self-reflexive at times (a play within a play within a movie - that kind of self-reflexivity).
BUT the last 20 minutes saved it for me. beginning when a guy playing a priest in a play does a great monologue about the human condition.
Watch at your own risk.
